sneaky newbie VS 'training' try-wannabe

its been a while since i last tri-ed. in fact, it has been almost 1 year (oct NAGT dapat ang comeback tri, but mukhang mauubusan akong slot, so baka sa UPLB dec tri na lang?)

next weekend is my comeback tri.

compared to the first time, i hope i can say that i have improved on my swim and bike, but not with the run. it has always been a tough balancing act to do all 3 events while maintaining decent times for each leg too.

being a newbie last year, there was not much pressure because there was no basis for comparison yet. there was no record of prior performance. unlike last year also, there were side bets between first time triathlon enthusiasts (me and neil) and an ironman veteran (commish), but this year, it is more personal.

they say that triathlon is a one-man event. you do everything on your own. if you lose, you lose by yourself, but when you win (in what ever way you can think of) you celebrate with your friends and teammates.

this one would be against myself. my previous time when i was literally a newbie.

i think that is more challenging.

can the sneaky newbie take advantage again of his older (supposedly more trained) self?

let the fun begin! :)

you can place your side bets now! :)

why do i hate mizuno

Mizuno sucks. BIG TIME. yup. you read that right. why? point #1: they are not a mainstream brand. mainstream in a sense that they don't even ha ve well-known product endorsers unlike other sports brands around the world. i mean, how can they expect their products to sell like pancakes if the y're like that diba? point #2: they do not promote much of themselves. not much print ads if you'd ask me. i work in a magazine publishing company and i don't see mu ch of their products splashed all over our magazines. i don't see them havi ng television ads too. not even in the newspapers does mizuno have anything that will lead people to buy their products. point #3: the products are not that "fashionable." as compared to other "mainstream" brands, you won't see you r regular juans and marias weari ng mizunos together with their jeans to the office. you don't see them usually wearing mizuno s when they go around the malls, walking, shopping, chilli...

SURVIVOR International Marathon: Smart SIM 2009 (part 1)

i'm sure a lot of runner-bloggers already expressed their opinions towards the recently concluded Smart SIM 42K SURVIVAL Run held this weekend. this is just to summarize things from MY point of view, and MY OPINIONS. This was supposedly the "most prestigious" marathon in the Philippines (well so they say). if being prestigious means: 1. No water stations for most of the stretch of the SCTEX 2. No support stations allowed along the long stretch of the SCTEX 3. No light along the way 4. runners' safety along the long dark stretch of the SCTEX was unsure (even though the road was closed from motorists, the sheer darkness of the place can put an injured, dehydrated runner lost in the darkness) kahit na they say bring your own lights, ibang level pa rin ito. then i guess this is it. i think it could be likened to training for the BDM, pero sa BDM alam ko may ilaw, at may posibilidad to buy drinks/ hydration along the way. i've had a lot of friends from takbo.ph who had...

want to know what's behind the WAVE?

  there are a lot in store from Mizuno this summer.  1. Other than the upcoming Infinity Run on April 11, there will be a trail run  co-sponsored by Tagaytay Highlands by April 25.  2. an exciting race in an exciting race venue! Sick and tired of having your usual races in the most common race venues? wait for another exciting race from Mizuno that features one of takbo.ph members' playground . Yes, there is a race outside BHS, The Fort/ McKinley, UP and MOA, Roxas Blvd. Another exciting race from Mizuno will be held in ORTIGAS! yup, you've read that right. another race venue which no race organizer has touched (recently hehe). As early as now, start your training in the dreaded St Martin and St.Paul hills, as these are where speed mamaws are made! :)  oh, and these are just the beginning. 3.oh yeah, did i mention that Mizuno Trail Shoes are coming to the Philippines? :)  (well i guess this means they've read my Mizuno blog . hahaha) (thank you jai...
