got beat at my own game

the mizuno infinity run 2010 has been one of the races i looked forward to this year. other than being an avid mizuno user, my fastest 15K race was made at last year's edition. but as compared to last year, i wasn't able to train as much. unlike last year, there was no Mizuno Run Club clinic that ended on the Thursday before Sunday's Infinity Run.

add to the fact that i've been encountering slight ITBS pains during runs longer than 10K.

so instead of me beating my old time,  what happened was i increased it pa by 6 mins :(

at the start, i was on target for a 1:28 finish, but right after kalayaan flyover, the mysterious on-off, Gary V-ish ITBS pain started to show up but eventually it disappeared. with that in mind, i thought i was still going to make it just in time, even just to beat a 2 minute improvement sana. unfortunately, ITBS pain showed up just before kalayaan flyover. all of a sudden, out of the blue, Roselle showed up and maybe she saw me grimacing in discomfort so she shouted out words of encouragement which helped me not think of the pain as much.

upon turning right, i saw a group of takbo.ph runners, namely Rod, Jet, Ziggy pacing Marga on the last stretch. in my mind, i was thinking, Marga's faster than me now??? i must be super slow na! shocked with this somekinda realization, i had to suck the pain up, and run just run to the finish line.

picture pace time! i had to get ahead their group to have a nice shot too
buti na lang the pain was not that evident sa face

at some point though, i felt that i had to walk the pain out so i decided to walk for a while before i reached the last stretch fronting Fullybooked and Market-Market.  upon reaching the marshals, i learned that the 15K runners had to run a little more. by this time i was so sure i wasn't able to beat my own time.

upon reaching the last stretch towards the chute, i saw marga. again in said to my mind, i have to go faster.  as soon as i got nearer the marshals, i found out that marga was running 10k only. hahaha :) either way, i still started to sprint towards the finish line.  that mad dash to the finish was accompanied by constant shouts of "sorry" and "excuse me" so as not to offend the other runners who were already cooling down towards the finish line chute. i also shouted at marga to push harder towards the finish line, as if i'm making a come-from-behind win from her. eventually, she saw me and made a mad-dash for herself too.  at the finish line, we congratulated each other for a fine finish.

marga & me chillaxing after finishing the race

eventually, i was able to still able to finish strong, but not as i would have wanted to.

finished strong, but not that fast (ITBS again winning)

why do i hate mizuno

Mizuno sucks. BIG TIME. yup. you read that right. why? point #1: they are not a mainstream brand. mainstream in a sense that they don't even ha ve well-known product endorsers unlike other sports brands around the world. i mean, how can they expect their products to sell like pancakes if the y're like that diba? point #2: they do not promote much of themselves. not much print ads if you'd ask me. i work in a magazine publishing company and i don't see mu ch of their products splashed all over our magazines. i don't see them havi ng television ads too. not even in the newspapers does mizuno have anything that will lead people to buy their products. point #3: the products are not that "fashionable." as compared to other "mainstream" brands, you won't see you r regular juans and marias weari ng mizunos together with their jeans to the office. you don't see them usually wearing mizuno s when they go around the malls, walking, shopping, chilli...

can you ENDURE the HEAT?

PERO sabi nila, lamang pa rin ang ULTRAS kumpara sa TRI.  yung iba naman, gustuhin mang mag TRI eh nag iipon pa rin para sa bike. eh paano naman ung gusto lang mag multisport? san sila sasali?  bakit naman sila sasali dito?  this event was conceived primarily to serve as simulation for those joining the Ateneo Aquathlon slated on March 20, 2011. in line with the team's partnership with Microwarehouse, the official distributor of Blackberries in the Philippines, the team decided to make it open to the public as a way of sharing to the public the joys of multisport. Here is the write up from the organizers (which i am also a team member :) )  ENDURE is a buddin...

SURVIVOR International Marathon: Smart SIM 2009 (part 1)

i'm sure a lot of runner-bloggers already expressed their opinions towards the recently concluded Smart SIM 42K SURVIVAL Run held this weekend. this is just to summarize things from MY point of view, and MY OPINIONS. This was supposedly the "most prestigious" marathon in the Philippines (well so they say). if being prestigious means: 1. No water stations for most of the stretch of the SCTEX 2. No support stations allowed along the long stretch of the SCTEX 3. No light along the way 4. runners' safety along the long dark stretch of the SCTEX was unsure (even though the road was closed from motorists, the sheer darkness of the place can put an injured, dehydrated runner lost in the darkness) kahit na they say bring your own lights, ibang level pa rin ito. then i guess this is it. i think it could be likened to training for the BDM, pero sa BDM alam ko may ilaw, at may posibilidad to buy drinks/ hydration along the way. i've had a lot of friends from takbo.ph who had...
